Read to Self

We are learning to read to self. This builds our reading stamina and helps us to get better at reading. We also have lots of fun reading!

Success Criteria

  • I read quietly
  • I concentrate on the book
  • I stay in space
  • I read the whole time
  • I get started straight away

Reflection

I really like: when you get to read books that are cool. I like picking my own books to read.

I think I need to practice: picking enough books so I stay in one spot and read quietly the whole time.

What a great honest reflection Kingston. You have though hard about your learning and your next steps! I love that you are enjoying chosing your own books to read during read to self. I agree, picking enough books for the whole read to self will mean you can stay in one spot and read the whole time. Also have a think about the place you choose to do your read to self. Try and pick somewhere that is going to help your learning, perhaps not next to your friends.

Swimming

We are learning to build our confidence in and around the water. We practise our swimming skills and love to show off our new tricks.

This is what I have been practising:
Safe entry into the pool (1/4 turn entry)

Submerge and blow bubbles

Float on my back (Starfish)

Reflection:

I am really proud of: I can do 3 front flips under the water.

It is tricky when: floating on my back and doing rocket arms.

The next thing I want to learn is: doing the shark swim and go heaps under water.

Kingston, you are confident in the water and you enter the pool safely. I have loved watching you show your tricks as you practised to do more and more flips in one go. Floating  and doing rocket arms on your back can be very tricky. Remember to push your tummy to the sky and tilt you chin up when you are on your back and that will help you to float.
