Nga Tae

We started by singing the colours song on our blog
Then in buddy time we shared the big book T-shirts. We thought we could use this book as inspiration for our learning so we made collage T-shirts. Rosie taught us how to say “This is my blue T-shirt” in Te Reo.

Success Criteria
ü  For the collage:
o   Small pieces of paper, the same colour
o   The white paper is all covered
o   Flappy edges glued down
ü  We know at least 4 colours in Te Reo
ü  We can say the colours correctly

Reflection

I really like: singing the colours song

I think I need to practice: the colours song some more because I forget grey (kiwi kiwi)

Something that really helped me was: singing the colours song and practising at home.

What a fantastic honest reflection Kingston. With support you and your group completed the t-shirt we used in our learning. I am pleased you enjoyed singing the colours song, singing can help us to learn! Keep on practising and you will know all the colours (even without the song)

I am a scientist

We have been learning to think like scientists this term. Learning all about plants has helped us to become scientists. We have been asking lots of questions and trying to answer them. We found out that plants breathe and drink water. We found the best way to germinate a seed – seeds need water to germinate but the plant needs water, soil and sun to grow well.

Task
Show my science learning using play dough, drawing and labelling what we can see, classifying the plants and completing the plant life cycle activity.

Reflection

I really like: that I know how to do some science stuff like looking closely and drawing what I can see.

I think I need to practice: listening on the mat so I always know what is going on.

Something that really helped me was: growing the plants because I like doing stuff.

Like a scientist you look closely (observe) and draw what you can see. You have loads of great ideas and when you are listening to the class chats you are able to add your ideas and thinking too. Your next step is to start thinking about where is the best place for you to do your learning, is it beside a buddy? is it to the side? or is in the front better for you?

Reading like talking

WALT: make my reading sound like talking.

Task
Create a ‘movenote’ or a 'show me' on the ipad to share your learning.
Take a photo of the book you are reading and record yourself reading one or two pages.
Remember to show your learning - check the success criteria…

Success Criteria:
  • I read the punctuation (full stops, commas, exclamation marks…).
  • I scoop the whole sentence with my eyes.
  • I have included a picture of the book I am reading.
  • I read in a clear voice.

Reflection

I really like: I keep knowing more words so I read stories at school and at home.

I think I need to practice: not skipping the word. If I miss out a word I need to make sure I read back.

Something that really helped me was: doing lots of practise. Reading the story lots of times makes my reading sound like talking.

When you slow down and read the book yourself, not listen to the other kids, you can read the punctuation and make you reading sound like talking. Remember to look closely at the word and get your mouth ready for the first sound chunk. That will help you to work out tricky words. Don't give up Kingston, you CAN do it!!

Kingstons exellence

We are learning all about Panekiretanga (excellence) as our value this term. We can show excellence in our learning and in our play. We can show excellence at school and at home... we can show excellence anywhere!

We think excellence is:
  • Giving it your your best shot and never giving up
  • If you don’t succeed, try and try again
  • Keep on practising
  • Do some thinking, then ask for help when you don’t know what to do
  • We all have our own excellence, and it can be different for different things
  • We need to encourage others – we show excellence in the way we talk.
  • We use our manners and share, including other people in our games – we show excellence in our play
WALT: show Panekiretanga (excellence) in our learning. 

Task
Show excellence in the classroom:



  1. Using the discovery equipment explore, experiment and try something new. 
  2. We love to try all the discovery activities and work
    together to play collaboratively.
  3. During buddy time work as a team to complete the T-shirt collage with no gaps, thumb size pieces of paper.

  4. Use your i-time card and follow during maths. Give every activity your best shot and don't give up!
We practise our learning with the teacher and by ourselves.

Remember excellence is all about trying your very best and not giving up, even when it is super hard. You show excellence outside during sport, you keep on going and you give it your all - I know you want to win. When we come back inside I would love to see some more of that! Your next learning step is to stick with the tricky learning when you are woking by youself just like do when you are in the group.
